This week’s love action or random act of kindness combined two of my favorite things; serving others with Jesus, and devising drama. A few weeks back I talked about joining my church during one of their monthly outreaches to Tijuana. This month was particularly special because we were celebrating Children’s Day. In Mexico, this is actually celebrated on April 30th, and often times children are given presents. For most of the kids that we get to hang out with in Tijuana, it is very unlikely that their families will be able to give them anything however. We always want to make sure that they still feel super special though, so an extra amount of effort was put into this trip!
There were games, a pancake breakfast, lots of prizes and candy, a jumping bed, and a time for singing and sharing. The pastor of the church we partner with in Tijuana asked if we could put together a fifteen minute drama to share a Gospel message with the kids. That is when the missions director of my church e-mailed me. I have a Bachelor of Arts with a triple major in English, Film, and Theater, which I admit I often feel like I do nothing with, but God is always so great at blessing us with opportunities to use our gifts and give purpose to our passions!
Leading up to the event I wrote up a simple script for one part of the performance, selected a drama I learned from my mission trip around the world to add onto that, rallied some awesome volunteers, and constructed a few fun, basic props, just using whatever free time I had during the week. We had an hour the morning of to put it all together, and I am telling you that if it weren’t for God being with us, preparations would not have fallen into place so well! But as it were it ended up all working out! There were 300+ kids watching, and they all seemed so engaged and attentive! So spectacular! Such an awesome day!
It was so wonderful being able to use my talents to serve God and bless others. So often we just think of using what we are good at for our job, career, for making a living. We live in a world full of all sorts of amazing, different people with different skills. Embrace that and realize that whatever you are uniquely good at can be such an asset to others who maybe don’t have that gift. So this week, why not bless someone specifically with a special gift you have. Maybe you are good at fixing things; why not surprise someone with a complimentary fix it job? Maybe you are really skilled at a particular sport; why not offer someone a free coaching session? Or maybe you are just someone who can see the good in situations even when others can’t; why not share with someone who is having a hard time some encouragement and cheering up. Even if it doesn’t seem like something impressive or special to you, I promise you that you have something very special to offer that is impressive and valuable! Once you use that something to serve others, you will see just how much of a blessing it can be! Thanks so much for reading! I hope you have a great week!
